Over the past year, the business has had more challenges than I have seen within my three decades experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have observed several shortages, and delivery issues caused by plastic resin allocations from resin companies. This is actually the first time I have seen all these issues at one time.
PTFE Rod (TFE) and Kynar both are on allocation.
This pair of resins are in short supply. The PTFE Sheeting product PTFE (TFE) and also PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar which is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide interest in this mineral has grown significantly, as well as supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and incredibly low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is utilized in a lot of applications from non-stick fry griddles to ptfe tape for use at home. This particular mineral is the crucial raw materials inside the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and a lot of refrigerants. This increasing amount of demand paired with shortage of raw materials is mainly responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double within the last year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to keep at it in the near future.
